Woman dies after self-immolation in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: A woman committed suicide by setting fire to her body in Kathmandu on Friday.

According to SP Sitaraj Rijal, the spokesperson of Kathmandu District Police, 36-year-old Shanti Shrestha of Ramechhap, a resident of Chandragiri Municipality-9 Machhegaon, committed suicide by setting fire to herself.

He said that Shrestha sprinkling petrol and set herself on fire at 3:30 pm on Friday.

Locals and police rescued and took her to Kirtipur Hospital for treatment. She died during treatment at 3:20 this morning, police said.

“The police have started an investigation as to why Shrestha committed suicide,” SP Rijal informed.
