KATHMANDU: The government has decided to promote 5 Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGs) to Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGs).
The government promoted five DIGs — Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, Tek Prasad Rai, Deepak Thapa, Shyam Lal Gyawali and Kiran Bajracharya — according to the recommendation made by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Ministry of Home Affairs recommended their promotion 15 days before the selection of the next Inspector General of Police (IGP).
IGP Dhiraj Pratap Singh, who has been serving for 30 years, will go on compulsory retirement on March 25.
The leadership of the police then will be selected from among the 5 recently-promoted police officers.
