KATHMANDU: The government has taken steps to address the impact of the automated pricing system on petroleum products, resulting in a reduction in the fare of public transport.

With the recent adjustment in the automated pricing mechanism, the prices of diesel and petrol have been lowered by Rs 4 per liter and Rs 6 per liter, respectively.

This has led to a positive outcome, as the Transport Management Department promptly responded by reducing the fare of public vehicles by 2.13 percent.

In specific regions, the fare of freight vehicles has also seen a reduction, with a decrease of 2.78 percent in the hills and 3.09 percent in the plains, as confirmed by Director General Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.

“The implementation of the reduced fare will commence from Monday itself, and its monitoring responsibility has been entrusted to the administration office and the traffic police,” stated Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Prakash Jwala, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring the effectiveness of the new fare structure.

This move is expected to ease the financial burden on commuters and enhance accessibility to public transport services throughout the nation.
