Parliamentary Committee directs govt to review the decision to revoke the electoral office

KATHMANDU: The National Concerns and Coordination Committee under the National Assembly has asked the government to review the proposal to abolish the District Election Office.

The committee meeting held at Singha Durbar on Wednesday instructed the government to review the proposal to cancel the district election office and place the unit in the administration office in consultation with the Election Commission.

Dilkumari Rawal, Chairman of the Committee, said that the meeting also directed the government to provide the necessary assistance to the Election Commission to complete its duties in a free and fair manner.

In the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha clarified that the government has no intention of abolishing the election office.

“The government is aware that such decisions should not be taken without consulting the Election Commission even from a legal point of view, and we are committed to retaining the dignity of the constitutional bodies,” he said.
