Drought hits maize crop in Udaypur

UDAYPUR: The prolonged drought has hit hard the maize planted in the district.

Farmers here are worrying over the maize planted at the end of Chaitra.

Since sowing maize seeds, there is no rainfall. As a result, the maize plant began wilting.

Farmers from Balamta, Tamlichha, Barah, Jante Bansbote of Limchungbung Rural Municipality; Bhutar, Iname, Nametar, Rametar, Anptar, of Rautamai Rural Municipality are despair over loss of the maize crop.

Farmer Birendra Magar from Rautamai Rural Municipality-4 said the absence of rains for long time has dried the maize saplings.

Similarly, another Bir Bahadur Katwal from Rautamai informed that they were let down to see the maize crops getting damaged in field.

Dhan Bahadur Danuwar from Udayapurgadhi Rural Municipality-3 also shares similar plight of crop loss.

In the beginning of Baisakh, we thought drought would not continue more, but it prolonged till date.

It has dried the maize seedlings in the field. The farmers are upset that they are afraid of possible famine owing to crop failure.
