KATHMANDU: Ramhari Khatiwada, the Chairperson of the State Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, has raised serious questions about the swift recommendation for a new General Secretary at the Federal Parliament Secretariat.

Khatiwada expressed skepticism over the unusually prompt decision-making process behind appointing the new General Secretary within the federal parliament secretariat.

He conveyed these concerns via Twitter, highlighting the impending retirement of twenty lawmakers, including the current Chairman of the National Assembly, due to the expiration of their tenure next month. He questioned the urgency behind the outgoing Chair’s recommendation for a new appointment in light of this circumstance, asking what might be transpiring behind the scenes.

While Khatiwada mentioned having no objections to the recommended candidate, he emphasized that the procedure followed has raised significant concerns.

In parallel developments, General Secretary Bharat Gautam tendered his resignation before the President on Sunday, eight months before the end of his tenure. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, and Chairman of the National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, have put forth the name of Padma Prasad Pandey for the vacant General Secretary position.
