KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha is scheduled to embark on an official visit to China on October 16.

His is scheduled to participate in the upcoming 3rd Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) conference, which is being organized by the Chinese government.

China is set to host this event on October 17 and 18, marking a decade since the initiation of the BRI project.

Reliable sources indicate that a high-level delegation led by Home Minister Shrestha will leave for China to partake in this forum.

The BRI, initiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, has garnered participation from over 150 countries worldwide, with China investing more than $50 billion in the project.

Nepal joined the BRI initiative in 2017, though the implementation of projects under the program has faced challenges due to internal political conflicts.
