KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has made a resolute declaration, announcing that its lawmakers will refrain from availing any service benefits during the obstruction of the Parliament.
In an official statement addressed to Speaker Devraj Ghimire on Friday, Rabi Lamichhane, the leader of the RSP parliamentary party, said, “We hereby solemnly convey our unwavering commitment, through the honorable Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), to abstain from acquiring any benefits while the parliamentary proceedings remain disrupted due to prevailing political discord.”
Lamichhane also conveyed through the correspondence that the obstruction of parliamentary activities infringed upon the inherent rights of the parliamentarians, curtailing their ability to deliberate on matters vital to the populace, address daily issues, and confront the nation’s challenges.
In addition, he beseeched the Speaker to take requisite measures to restore the ongoing legislative session to its regular course.
Continuing disruptions, primarily instigated by the CPN-UML’s persistent call for the establishment of a high-level investigative committee to scrutinize the 100-kilos gold smuggling case, have hampered the Parliament’s normal functioning.
