KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash (NP) Saud has said that he will take a decision on the recruitment of Gurkhas at an appropriate time.
Speaking at the meeting of the Parliament’s International Relations Committee on Monday, Minister Saud said, “All-party consensus is necessary on such a matter. On this basis, we will take the appropriate decision at the appropriate time.”
He said that Gurkha recruitment was stopped after the change in Indian law. He also informed that there was no formal diplomatic initiative to resume the recruitment.
After Nepal disagreed with the recruitment of Gorkhas as per India’s ‘Agnipath’ plan, the selection process was postponed indefinitely at the end of last August.
