KATHMANDU: The Patan High Court is hearing the petitions submitted by the accused individuals currently in custody on the fake Bhutanese refugee issue.

A joint bench comprising Justices Subash Paudel and Dipendra Adhikari is hearing the proceedings today.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamazhi, former Home Minister Balkrishna Khand, and Bhutanese refugee leader Tek Nath Rijal had previously filed petitions with the Patan High Court, challenging the District Court’s decision to incarcerate them in connection with the case.

Judge Prem Prasad Neupane of the District Court Kathmandu had ordered 16 out of the initial 18 individuals arrested in this case to be remanded in custody.

The District Public Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against 30 defendants, including several prominent figures, in relation to the organized fraud scheme involving the false claiming of Nepali citizens as fake Bhutanese refugees destined for America.

It is worth noting that 11 of the individuals implicated in this case are currently evading capture.
