Maoist Center quitting Koshi government today

BIRATNAGAR: The Maoist Center said it is withdrawing its support to the Koshi Province government today.

A meeting of the Maoist Center’s parliamentary party to be held today morning is likely to decide to quit the government and withdraw it support to the Chief Minister Hikmat Karki-led government.

The party on Monday decided to quit the Karki-led government and form the government in its leadership.

A Maoist leader of the Koshi Province Assembly, said, “We have received an instruction from the party leadership to quit the government.”

The Maoist Center has two ministers in the CPN-UML party leader Karki-led government.

It may be noted that the Nepali Congress, Unified Socialist Party and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) have been pressuring the Maoists to withdraw from the UML-led Koshi provincial government and move forward according to the central power coalition.

JSP, which has the only seat in the provincial assembly, has already quit the government.

In the 93-member Province Assembly, Chief Minister Karki currently has the support of 40 lawmakers from the UML, 13 from the Maoists and 6 from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).
