Sudurpaschim Chief Minister Shah garners two-thirds majority in the provincial assembly



DHANGADHI: Sudurpaschim Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah has received a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly garnering more than two- third votes.

Shah took the vote of confidence in the province assembly meeting held on Sunday afternoon. Out of 52 MPs participated in the voting, Shah got 41 votes. There were 11 votes against him.

In the 53-member provincial assembly, there are 19 MPs from the Nepali Congress (NC), 11 MPs including the Speaker from the CPN-Maoist Center, 7 MPs from the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP), 4 MPs from the CPN (Unified Socialist) and one from Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP). There is one independent candidate in the assembly.

Shah was given a vote of confidence by MPs from his own party NC, Maoist Center, NUP and Unified Socialist Party.

CPN-UML has 10 MPs in the state assembly. UML and RPP MPs did not vote for Shah.

Earlier, UML’s Rajendrasinh Rawal, who had previously become the chief minister, failed to get a vote of confidence, and his government collapsed within a month.

After the fall of Rawal’s government, Shah was appointed as the chief minister as the leader of the largest parliamentary party Nepali Congress.
