KATHMANDU: The Traffic Police in Kathmandu Valley have escalated their efforts to curb violations of traffic regulations, resulting in punitive measures against 12,711 drivers from various areas within a week.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, the recent campaign, spanning from October 26 until Thursday morning, led to the action of over 12,700 drivers.
Rajendra Prasad Bhatta, Senior Superintendent of Police at the Office, emphasized the deployment of police teams across the valley’s three districts: Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur.
Bhatta underscored the heightened enforcement, attributing it to the heightened risk of accidents posed by reckless driving during the festival season.
The latest statistics, shared by Senior Superintendent of Police Bhatta, reveal that 2,218 drivers were taken action in the last 24 hours.
Notably, 300 of them were caught for over speeding, while 152 were penalized for lane violations.
On a single day, a staggering 86 drivers were taken action solely for operating vehicles at excessive speeds.
Citing a police analysis, it was revealed that speeding is a leading contributor to accidents in the Valley.
To counter this, the authorities have installed automatic cameras along various sections of the Valley’s Ring Road to monitor and penalize speeding drivers.
Additionally, patrol teams have been stationed at strategic locations to control speeding.
