Local elections: Today is final day for nomination filing

KATHMANDU: Nominations are being registered for the local level election today as well. Although the nomination registration began on Sunday, a few candidates turned up to file their nominations.

It is learnt that the ruling coalition and the main opposition CPN-UML are registering nominations in most places today.

Though nominations are to be registered for 35,221 posts at 753 local levels, only 10,523 candidates filed nominations yesterday. Nomination registration is scheduled from 10 am to 4 pm.

The list of registered candidates will be published this evening. Election Commission spokesperson Shalikram Sharma Poudel said that the list of candidates will be published on Monday after the nomination.

Following the publication of the list, complaints can be lodged, if any, against the candidatures on April 26, according to the schedule of the Election Commission.

Nomination papers and complaints lodged against candidacies will be examined on April 27 and 28. The list of candidates will be published on April 29.  The candidates will withdraw their names on April 29 and the final-list of candidates will be published on the same day.

According to the Election Commission, candidates will be given election symbols on April 30.
