Constitution Day observed
The Constitution Day- Ashoj 3- was observed by organizing various programs across the country today.
The Day marks the promulgation of the constitution written by the people’s representatives via the constituent assembly on Ashoj 3, 2072 BS.
The present constitution is the seventh written constitution of Nepal which has aimed at establishing socialism through citizens’ socioeconomic and cultural rights.
President Bhandari, PM attend main function of Constitution Day
President Bidya Devi Bhandari attended the main function organized on the occasion of the 8th Constitution Day and National Day at Army Pavilion, Tundikhel, on Monday.
Also present on the occasion were Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, acting Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Karki, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota, National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, ministers, constitutional bodies chiefs, high-placed government officials, chiefs and representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in Kathmandu.
Major parties submit closed list of PR candidates to Election Commission
The major parties have submitted their closed list of candidates under proportional representation (PR) electoral system to the Election Commission (EC) for the House of Representatives (HoR) and Provincial Assembly elections.
The representatives of Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML, Maoist Center, CPN Unified Socialist and other parties have reached the EC on Monday and submitted the closed list of PR candidates.
The EC Commission had fixed Sunday and Monday as the days to submit the closed list of PR candidates.
The EC, however, said that the names submitted today would not be the final ones as the closed list can be corrected till October 2.
Foundation stone laid for motorable bridge linking Nepal, India
The construction of a motorable concrete bridge over the Mahakali River in Darchula district has begun.
Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Dilendra Prasad Badu and Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, India, Pushkar Singh Dhami jointly laid the foundation stone for the project amid a function in Darchula on Monday.
Following the event, Minister Badu said the bridge linking Nepal and India was a need to increase trade between the two countries as well as with China while expressing the hope that the project would help open the door to development in the country.
It also helps to ease people’s mobility to travel to India for the people of Baitadi and Bajhang districts, he added.
998 individuals to receive decorations and titles
President Bidya Devi Bhandari has announced to confer various decorations and titles on 998 individuals on the occasion of Constitution Day and National Day, 2079 BS at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.
Names of the individuals to be decorated on the occasion were made public as per the decision of the Council of Ministers in accordance with Article 277 of the Nepal Constitution.
The announcement was made in a statement issued today by the Spokesperson of the Office of the President, Sagar Acharya.
Bangladesh clinches title of SAFF Women’s Championship 2022
Bangladesh has defeated Nepal 3-1 in the final of the SAFF Women’s Championship 2022 held in Kathmandu, Nepal.
In the final match played at the Dasarath Stadium in Kathmandu on Monday evening, Bangladesh won the match 3-1.
With this, Bangladesh clinched the championship title while Nepal became the first runner-up.
Five arrested for trying to torch constitution
Police have arrested five persons protesting against the constitution from Maitighar in Kathmandu on Monday.
Police said the arrested were affiliated to Rastriya Samyukta Janandolan Morcha and were attempting to burn the constitution.
Gold traded at Rs 91,800 per tola
The price of gold has decreased by Rs 400 in the domestic market today.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the hallmark gold is being traded at Rs 91,400 per tola.
Nepal sees 91 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours
Nepal recorded a total of 91 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Monday.
Of the confirmed cases, 75 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 16 through the Antigen method.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 3,924 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
Of them, 2,488 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 1,436 through the Antigen method.
