KATHMANDU: A team from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has reached the residence of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana in Baluwatar, Kathmandu, on Sunday to monitor the situation.
The NHRC team reached Baluwatar after Rana reported that the government kept him in ‘detention’ and did not allow him to leave his residence.
“It came to light that the Chief Justice was not allowed to leave the house, so our team reached his residence to find out what happened,” said NHRC Spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel.
Chief Justice Rana had been suspended after an impeachment motion was filed against him in Parliament.
Rana had been preparing to return to work at the Supreme Court from today (Sunday), arguing that as the term of the parliament expired on Saturday midnight, the impeachment motion too was nullified.
However, the government deployed a large number of security personnel outside his residence to prevent him from leaving his house and return to Supreme Court.
In this context, the NHRC team reached his residence.
