OKHALDHUNGA: Two houses were completely destroyed in a fire caused by an electrical short circuit in Charkhu, Siddhicharan Municipality-4, last evening. Property worth an estimated Rs. 2.6 million was destroyed in the incident.
According to Police Inspector Shekhar Kumar Sah of the District Police Office, the fire started in the two-storey house of local resident Kotmaya Karki, which had stone-and-mud flooring and a thatched roof. The blaze subsequently spread to the two-storey house of her daughter-in-law, Gyan Kumari Karki.
The fire was brought under control after about three hours with the combined efforts of Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force, the Siddhicharan Municipality fire brigade and local residents.
Police said Kotmaya Karki’s house, along with food grains, utensils, clothes, one tola of gold-like jewelry and Rs. 20,000 in cash, was destroyed in the fire. The damage to her property has been estimated at around Rs. 1.2 million.
Similarly, Gyan Kumari Karki’s house was destroyed along with food grains, clothes, two tolas and two annas of gold-like jewelry, and Rs. 50,000 in cash. The estimated loss in her case is around Rs. 1.4 million.
Police Inspector Sah said no human or livestock casualties were reported in the incident.
