Public holiday today; vehicles stay off the roads



KATHMANDU: The government has given a public holiday today on the occasion of local level election which is taking place across the country.

The roads in the Kathmandu Valley are wearing a deserted look with the public vehicles staying off the roads.

On the recommendation of the Election Commission, the government has given public holidays while the public vehicles have been closed.

On the day of election, essential vehicles including ambulances, those carrying hospital staffers have been given exemption for operation.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has directed the government to further facilitate the movement of media persons in the Kathmandu Valley on the day of polling.

The Commission has clarified that in the case of journalists who have the press pass issued by the Nepal government or the official body of the state government, a driving license is not required for the vehicles used by such journalists.

The Chief District Officer will also issue driving license in case of media personnel who do not have press pass, if requested through an official letter from the concerned media house.
