Five-party coalition will get clear two-thirds majority: NC Spokesperson Mahat

Nepali Congress (NC)’s Spokesperson and Election Publicity Committee Coordinator, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, claimed that the ruling five-party coalition would win the upcoming parliamentary election with clear two-thirds majority.

Use of government vehicles by federal and provincial ministers barred in election campaign

The Election Commission of Nepal has prohibited the use of government vehicles by federal or provincial ministers and the office-bearers of the local units in the election campaign.

The Election Code of Conduct (First Amendment)-2079 BS’s Clause 5 section A forbids the use of government vehicles as well as resources for the campaign of election to the upcoming parliamentary elections.

NEPSE increases by 7.32 points on Wednesday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has retained its green trend and increased by 7.32 points to reach 19.38 points on Wednesday.

The NEPSE index, which has been on the rise since Monday, the first trading day after Tihar, is still in the same order today.

On the previous trading day (Tuesday), the NEPSE index rose by 56.10 points to close at 1930.97 points.

EC seeks clarifications from Bhattarai, Magar

The Election Commission (EC) has sought clarifications from CPN-UML’s candidate for the election to the House of Representatives from Taplejung, Yogesh Bhattarai and Maoist Centre’s candidate from Kanchanpur-1, Bina Magar, for ‘violating’ the election code of conduct.

The two were asked to submit clarifications for being accompanied by more than 25 people during the home visit program under the election publicity campaign.

Three arrested for vandalizing ATM machines in Lalitpur

Nepal police has nabbed three people for trying to steal an ATM machine by vandalizing it.

According to the Lalitpur police, the arrested are 31-year-old Basant Tiwari of Belkotgadhi-3, Nuwakot, Basanta, Vijay Tiwari, 24, of Lalitpur-6, Sundhara, Lalitpur and 35-year-old Anil Rai, a resident of Dharan-15, Bhanuchok.

Nepal sees 59 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 59 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Wednesday.

Of the confirmed cases, 46 cases were detected through the RT-PCR method and 13 through Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 3,642 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

EC terms Maoist Center Chairman Prachanda’s explanation unsatisfactory

The Election Commission (EC) has said that the explanation given by the CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda regarding breach of code of conduct during the registration of nominations is not satisfactory.

Earlier when Prachanda reached Constituency 2 of Gorkha, a musical procession had accompanied him to the election office on October 9.

Coalition is for the protection of Constitution: Dr. Shekhar Koirala

Nepali Congress (NC) central member and candidate for the House of Representatives election from Morang constituency-6, Dr Shekhar Koirala, has said the ruling parties’ alliance should secure a win in the election for the ‘protection’ of the Constitution.

In his address to a corner meeting organized at Biratnagar today, the leader stressed the need of the victory of the alliance for as he argued strengthening democracy, preventing corruption and establishing good governance in the country.

EC grants conditional permission to PM Deuba to go to Dadeldhura

The Election Commission (EC) has allowed Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba to go to his Dadeldhura constituency.

According to EC source, the Prime Minister will be allowed to go to Dadeldhura only at personal or party expense, without using government resources.

EC directs PM’s office to postpone PM Deuba’s Dadeldhura trip

The Election Commission (EC) has directed the Office of the Prime Minister and Minister of Council to postpone Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s visit to Dadeldhura.

Prime Minister Deuba was preparing to go to Dadeldhura for election campaigning at government expense. In that sequence, the Prime Minister’s office had sent a letter to the EC seeking permission. In its response to the letter EC directed the PM’s office to postpone the visit citing the code of conduct does not allow the PM and the Ministers to attend election campaign at government expense.

Gold price up by Rs 500 per tola

The price of gold increased by Rs 500 in the domestic market on Wednesday.

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the hallmark gold is being traded at Rs 93,600 per tola.

Hearing on Sandeep Lamichhane’s case to begin today

Hearing on the case of Sandeep Lamichhane, suspended Captain of the Nepali National Cricket on a rape case registered against him, is beginning today.

A case was registered at the Court on last Monday against Lamichhane on the charge of raping a 17-year-old girl.

The District Court Kathmandu finished taking statements from Lamichhane on Tuesday.

The statement was taken from Lamichhane in the case registered against him by office of public prosecutor.

India to export 600,000 tons of unmilled rice to Nepal

India will allow 600,000 tons of unmilled rice to be exported to Nepal.

The Indian government permitted duty-free exports of rice to Nepal in a move that is seen as helping the Nepal meet its food security.

Nepal relies on India to fulfill its food grain requirements.
