Lawyers stop chanting against CJ Rana after latter falls ill



KATHMANDU: Citing Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana is admitted to hospital due to illness, the legal practitioners have stopped chanting slogans against him on Tuesday.

According to Nepal Bar Association (NBA) sources, the lawyers and Bar Association officials did not chant any slogans against chief Justice Rana on Tuesday. However, they continued the sit-in program at the Supreme Court.

Earlier, protesters had been chanting slogans demanding the resignation of the Chief Justice.

“The Chief Justice is hospitalized, we did not chant slogans against the person in hospital,” NBA General Secretary Lila Mani Poudel said, adding, “Even though the agitation continued, we remained silent today, wishing him good health.”

Poudel said that discussions will be held Tuesday on how to take the movement ahead from Wednesday.

After being infected with the coronavirus, Chief Justice Rana was admitted to the Armed Police Hospital in Balambu on Monday evening.

According to hospital sources, his health condition is stable.
