Eight persons face music for charging exorbitant fare



KATHMANDU: Traffic police have arrested eight people from Kathmandu for taking exorbitant fares than prescribed by the government.

The traffic police have arrested eight persons from New Bus Park for taking more than the prescribed fare from the passengers going outside Kathmandu.

Among the arrested are Santosh Damai of Dang, Kushal Ram Basnet, Gim Bahadur Gaha Magar, Deep Narayan Thapa of Rupandehi, Shivlal Ghimire of Kapilvastu, and Yuvaraj Dhakal of Morang.

Similarly, police have arrested Rakesh Rasaili and Jhanak Bahadur Ghimire of Udayapur.

They have been sent to Gaushala Police Circle for necessary action, according to the Traffic Police.

Chief of the Traffic Police, SSP Janak Bhattarai said that the traffic police have been monitoring the possible fraud, and other activities such as bargaining with passengers, secretly enquiring with passengers, interrogating them, and arresting them.

Meanwhile, the traffic police have taken under control 47 vehicles with private number plates that were carrying passengers out of the Kathmandu Valley.

The department has taken action after it was found that the vehicles with private number plates were carrying passengers charging exorbitant fares.

Though private cars, jeeps, vans, and other vehicles are not allowed to carry passengers taking the fare, the police have tightened the investigation after receiving complaints of carrying passengers at exorbitant charges.
