Senior NC leader Poudel says candidate for party president to be decided through consensus

KATHMANDU: Senior Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ram Chandra Poudel has claimed that the candidate for party presidency will be decided through consensus.

Speaking at a launch of his concept paper titled “NC’s Future Course: 10 Transformative Formulas” in Kathmandu on Sunday, Poudel said discussions were underway among the aspirants for the presidency to reach consensus.

He said, “We are still in discussions. We will finalize the candidate through consensus in a day or two.” Poudel, who is himself an aspirant for the party presidency, made public his concept paper on the future course of action of the NC.

Leaders close to Poudel, who also aspire for NC presidency, have been saying that a consensus candidate will be decided, however, the possibility of consensus candidate seems slim as the aspirants have not given up their stance.

Besides Poudel, General Secretary Dr. Shashank Koirala, former General Secretary Prakash Man Singh and Central Member Dr. Shekhar Koirala have announced that they would compete in the race for NC presidency.

From among the aspirants, leader Singh and central member Koirala were not present at the launch of senior leader Poudel’s concept paper.

The concept paper was launched in the presence of leaders Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat, General Secretary Dr. Koirala, and Arjun Narsingh KC, among others.
