KATHMANDU: Following the collapse of the Krishnabhir section of the Prithvi Highway, Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has been continuously supplying petroleum products and LPG to Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas through the Tribhuvan Highway.
On August 30, tankers carrying fuel and gas bullets were stranded midway after the Prithvi Highway collapsed due to erosion caused by the Trishuli River. To maintain supplies, the Corporation has started transporting LPG cylinders filled at industries in the Terai to Kathmandu via alternative routes.
According to the Corporation, around 24,500 cylinders were brought to the Valley on September 3 and another 34,134 cylinders on September 4. To ensure uninterrupted supply, LPG industries have been instructed to continue refilling and transporting cylinders even on public holidays.
Meanwhile, the Corporation is supplying aviation fuel and LPG for ongoing search and rescue operations following the Bhotekoshi River floods on Bhadra 20, which caused extensive damage in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan districts.
So far, 120,000 litres of aviation fuel have been supplied at the Nepal Army barracks in Nuwakot for helicopters deployed in the rescue operations.
Similarly, the Corporation said 575 LPG cylinders had been sent to Rasuwa and Nuwakot for use in temporary shelters at the request of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
