Govt mulling reintegration of Nepalis migrant returnee

KATHMANDU: Minister for Law, Employment and Social Security Krishna Kumar Shrestha said that the government was planning to reintegrate the Nepalis migrant returnees.

At a discussion with stakeholders Friday in the run-up to the preparation for bilateral labor pact related to Nepal-Qatar Joint Working Committee meeting to be held in Kathmandu on December 16-17 this year, Minister Shrestha reiterated that the government had prioritized reintegration so as to ensure market for the skills the migrant returnees possess.

Expressing displeasure over the unhealthy competition among the foreign employment professionals, Shrestha reaffirmed his commitment to strictly enforce the laws related to foreign employment. The Minister also warned to take action against those overseas employment entrepreneurs who send off Nepalis for foreign employment in ‘visit visa’.

He also assured that he will not let the opportunities for Nepalis to be recruited in the Qatar police to slip through the fingers. Minister Shrestha underscored devising a mechanism to address the issues facing Nepalis migrant workers abroad and ensure them justice.

The Minister also stressed on decentralization of the training center to produce skilled human resources to be sent abroad for employment.

Present in the meeting were high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security as well as labour experts and foreign employment entrepreneurs among others. There are around over 350,000 Nepalis migrant workers engaged in different sectors of employment in Qatar, it was shared.
