KATHMANDU: A heavy snowfall has occurred at the base camp of Mt Everest, partly due to the impact of Cyclone Yaas. The mountaineers, who had already reached the fourth camp, have been forced to return.

Khim Lal Gautam, the first surveyor to climb Mt Everest, who is currently at the base camp, said the mountain climbers who have already scaled the mountain have not been able to bring down their goods including tents from the second camp.

Some mountaineers have sustained injuries while climbing down to the base camp after scaling the world’s highest peak, said Gautam.

Efforts are underway to rescue the injured via chopper. The weather is bad starting from Lukla until the base camp.

Due to bad weather, helicopters have not been able to reach the base camp from Lukla. Even the high altitude workers could not reach the second camp to fetch the goods due to heavy snowfall.
