NCP Prachanda-Nepal faction’s Standing Committee meeting underway

Likely to take further action against PM Oli

KATHMANDU: The Standing Committee meeting of the Prachanda-Nepal faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is underway at Perisdanda.

Spokesperson of the faction Narayankaji Shrestha said that the meeting is holding a general discussion among the Standing Committee members regarding the protest assembly staged on Friday.

The meeting is expected to review the protest program and discuss a new protest plan. A leader said that the three-day clarification sought from Prime Minister KP Oli, selection of the party’s General Secretary, and the power equation in provincial government could also be discussed at the meeting.

The faction has taken the streets against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) terming the move unconstitutional and undemocratic.

Meanwhile, a leader said that preparations are being made to take action against Prime Minister Oli.

“Why not take action against you for anti-party activities? Please give a satisfactory explanation within three days,” the Prime Minister was asked.

The faction had handed over a letter to the Prime Minister’s residence over a decision to seek clarification. However, Oli has not responded yet.

Standing Committee members Surendra Pandey, Mukund Neupane, and Office Secretary Shreeram Dhakal had reached Baluwatar with the letter.

A Standing Committee meeting of the faction held at the party’s central office in Perisdanda last Friday had decided to seek clarification from the prime minister.

The faction has already dismissed Oli from the party’s Chairmanship.
