Rain-affected Biratnagar Airport comes into operation



BIRATNAGAR: The Biratnagar Airport which was disrupted following inundation induced by unseasonal rains is coming into operation from today.

The airport which remained shut for three days after the floods entered the runway is resuming operations from today, informed regulatory body Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).

The CAAN has authorized airlines companies to conduct flights from morning to 5 pm depending on the weather conditions.

Currently fights will be conducted under VFR (visual flight rules), said the CAAN. The flights as per IFR (instrument flight rules) will be operated only following the through examination of the equipment.

Currently, there will be no flights during night. Biratnagar Airport was shut down from October 20 by issuing a NOTAM.

The swollen Keshaliya river had entered the Biratnagar Airport thereby inundating the runway and the parking lot following unseasonal rains.
