Prime Minister Modi addresses the Leaders’ Summit on Climate



NEW DELHI: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi addressed the Leaders’ Summit on Climate on 22 April, 2021  in the session on “Our Collective Sprint to 2030”.

During his remarks Prime Minister Modi urged everyone to make this a ‘Decade of Action against Climate Change. He added that for humanity to combat climate change, concrete action is needed.

He informed that India is doing its part with its ambitious renewable energy target of 450GW by 2030. He also informed that India has taken many bold steps on clean energy, energy efficiency, afforestation and bio-diversity.

Prime Minister Modi also encouraged global initiatives like International Solar Alliance, LeadIT and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.

On the occasion, PM Modi and President Biden launched ‘India-US Climate and Clean Energy Agenda 2030 Partnership” with an aim of mobilise investments, demonstrate clean technologies and enable green collaborations.

Prime Minister Modi also said “India’s per capita carbon footprint is 60% lower than the global average because of our lifestyle is still rooted in sustainable traditional practices.”

He emphasized the importance of lifestyle change in climate action and urged everyone to follow the guiding philosophy of ‘Back to Basics” as an important pillar of economic strategy for the post-Covid era.
