Five held with over Rs 65,000 fake currency notes in Valley



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested five individuals in possession of over Rs 65,000 fake currency notes in the Kathmandu Valley.

The arrested have been identified as 65-year-old Goma Shrestha, Pushpa Thapa Magar, 41, of Indrawati rural municipality-8, Sam Roj Thapa Magar of Shirubari rural municipality-2, Chiranjibi Joti and Sujan Joti of Helambu rural municipality, Sindhupalchowk.

Police had started keeping close tabs on them after being tipped off that they were procuring goods with fake bank notes in Dakshin Doka of Gokarneshwor.

A team of Metropolitan Police Circle, Bouddha arrested Goma Shrestha in a suspicious manner. She was arrested in possession of fake notes of 100 denomination, informed SP Ramesh Basnet of Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu.

She revealed that she had taken the money from her daughter Pushpa Thapa Magar. Then the police had raided Pushpa’s room based in Narayantar. Police found fake notes in Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denomination in the room.

Similarly, police confiscated a printing machine, and Rs 65,365 fake currency notes among other equipment used to print notes from the Kapan-based room of Sam Roj, the son of Pushpa.
