More than 50 people missing in Melamchi and Indrawati floods: Minister Tamang

KATHMANDU: More than 50 people have gone missing in the floods that occurred in the Melamchi and Indrawati rivers, informed Minister for Health and Population Sher Bahadur Tamang.

According to Minister Tamang, who has been elected to the House of Representatives (HoR), the floods have broken down the dam of the Melamchi drinking water project located at Timbu.

Similarly, Timbu Bazaar,Chanaute Bazaar, Talamarang, Melamchi Bazaar have been covered by slimy mud and pebbles.

The floods have also swept away the bridge connecting Nakota, Timbu, Phatte, Melamchi Nawalpur and another under construction bridge of the Mid-Hill Highway at Bahunepati.

“More than 50 people have gone missing in the floods of the Melamchi and Indrawati rivers. The floods have incurred damaged on the dam of Melamchi drinking water project, Timbu Bazaar, Chanaute Bazaar, Talamarang Bazaar, Melamchi Bazaar. Similarly, Nakote bridge, Timbu bridge, Phatte bridge, Melamchi bridge, Bahunepati bridge have been swept away by the floods,” Minister Tamang has written on his Facebook.

The facilities constructed along the bank of the rivers have been totally destroyed. “I would like to make an appeal to one and all to stand united for rescue and relief operations,” writes Tamang.

Meanwhile, he has urged the people living on the banks of the rivers up to Saptakoshi to take precautions saying that the level of water is still increasing.
