KATHMANDU: The Department of Tourism (DoT) has given permission to 53 expedition teams to scale Nepal’s peaks this spring season.
As many as 465 climbers — 363 males and 102 females –have been given the permission to climb 11 mountains above 6,000 meters, according to the DoT.
Twenty-nine teams comprising 275 members will attempt to climb Mt Everest this season.
Likewise, 55 climbers have obtained the permission to climb Mt Lhotse (8,516 meters) while 44 climbers have received to climb Mt Annapurna (8,091m).
Similarly, the DoT has permitted 30 climbers to climb Mt Dhaulagiri (8,167).
Climbers have sought permission to climb mountains including Mt Everest, Ama Dablam, Manaslu, Annapurna, Lhotse, Dhaulagiri, Nuptse, Pumori, Makalu, Tilicho and Tukuche.
According to the DoT, it has collected Rs 381,285,346 as royalty from the climbers.
