Traffic police launches awareness campaign against COVID-19

KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division has launched a public awareness campaign bearing in mind the second wave of global COVID-19 infections.

The campaign aimed to prevent and control the infections was launched today in coordination with transport entrepreneurs.

The theme of the campaign is ‘traffic police wish for healthy and safe travel’, division chief senior superintendent of police, Janak Bhattarai, said while speaking in the launching ceremony.

”Public transport sector is at high risk of Covid-19,” he said, underlining the need of taking all possible preventive measures to operate it.

Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs chair Yogendra Nath Karmacharya urged transport sector workers to take safety measures against the virus. Federation general secretary Punya Prasad (Saroj) Sitaula suggested the use of masks and sanitizers and the avoidance of over-crowding in public vehicles to break the chain for the virus spread.

Stickers featuring awareness messages were put on the vehicles while drivers, assistant drivers, and passengers were given masks. The Division has made a special call to drivers, assistant drivers, and potential passengers to maintain physical distancing, wear masks and use sanitizer during travel.
