CHITWAN: A canteen on the premises of Chitwan Medical College has started providing meals at a subsidised rate to students, employees, workers and others struggling to cook due to the shortage of LPG gas.
Friends Restro, which has been serving a standard meal for Rs 150, has reduced the price to Rs 100 for people affected by the gas shortage, according to its operator Krishna Prasad Dhakal.
Dhakal said people who have only one LPG cylinder are particularly affected as they face difficulties refilling it once it runs out.
“We started offering meals at a subsidised price to help those facing an immediate problem due to the gas shortage,” he said.
Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal said people facing an urgent need for LPG have been asked to register their names at their respective wards.
According to Aryal, the district administration has also directed suppliers to sell LPG on a cluster basis each day.
Around 8,000 LPG cylinders are being distributed daily through the cluster-based system.
Aryal said 998 people have so far received LPG after calling the administration’s toll-free number.
The administration is also preparing to arrange cluster-based LPG distribution from the Central Bus Park from this coming Friday, he said.
