Student Unions’ to continue nationwide agitation against fuel price hike and other issues

KATHMANDU: Student Unions affiliated with the opposition alliance have decided to continue their agitation against fuel price hike across the country.

A joint meeting of the student unions held Saturday decided to protest further against the government’s reactionary and unconstitutional measures, price hike of petroleum products, corruption in the education and other sectors, government’s apathy towards prevention and control of coronavirus infection, among others.

They have also voiced their demands regarding the implementation of fundamental, health, and educational rights of citizens enshrined in the constitution.

They also decided to ask leaders of opposition parties to sign a commitment letter prepared by them amidst a public event with regard to the implementation of the fundamental right to education, health and employment as provisioned in the constitution. They are of the opinion that opposition leaders ought to be committed to those constitutional provisions irrespective of them being in the government or opposition.

The meeting was attended by Nepal Students Union President Rajiv Dhungana (affiliated with the Nepali Congress), All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union or ANNISU-R President Ranjit Tamang (Maoist Center), All Nepal National Free Students Union President Sudesh Parajuli, Samajwadi Students Union President Rupnarayan Shrestha, and others.
