Govt lifts restriction on number of daily domestic flights

KATHMANDU: The government has lifted the quota restriction on the number of daily domestic flights in the country. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), domestic airlines are now able to request the required number of flights for destinations.

The CAAN has taken steps to increase the number of flights at a time when road traffic has been hindered due to floods and landslides across the country. Accordingly, all airlines have been notified about the decision on Thursday.

“Now there is no fixed limit on the number of flights. Airlines can schedule flights as per the demand of passengers,” said CAAN Director Rajan Pokharel. However, health safety standards must be met while conducting flights, and airlines and passengers will have to abide by the conditions and criteria set by the local administration of each district.

Earlier, the government had decided to resume domestic flights from July 1. However, airlines companies had said that allowing only 50 percent of flights would not meet the demand and fares were likely to increase.
