SC refuses to grant interim order on Speaker Sapkota’s writ petition against CC appointments

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has refused to grant an interim order sought in the writ petition filed by Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota against the appointments made in various constitutional bodies.

The bench of Justice Prakash Kumar Dhungana has demanded a response from the Constitutional Council and others to explain the reason for the appointment.

According to Supreme Court sources, the writ petition has been given priority along with the show cause order.

Officials said the Speaker’s demand has been rejected for the time being.

The Constitutional Council (CC) had appointed over three dozen people to various bodies, including the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, the National Human Rights Commission and the National Commission for Women.

Although the names were sent to the joint committee of the federal parliament for parliamentary hearing, the committee does not exist as the House of Representatives has been dissolved.
