Heavy rains forecast for three days starting Wednesday



KATHMANDU: The monsoon, which slightly improved on Monday following a week-long rainy weather, is going to get active from Wednesday again.

With the monsoon surging gradually from east to west, heavy rains are likely to occur in various parts of the country for three days starting Wednesday, according to Manju Basi, a meteorologist.

The heavy rains will occur from Wednesday and last until Friday, triggering floods, landslides and inundation in various parts of the country. Meanwhile, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged people especially those living along the banks of the rivers and in low-lying areas.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD), has forecast generally to mostly cloudy weather in Province 1, Province 2, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province and Lumbini Province, partly to generally cloudy in the rest of the Province with chances of light to moderate rains at some places of these provinces.

According to the statistics maintained by the Division based on the measurement of rainfall carried out by 20 weather stations across the country, a total of 514 millimeters of rains have occurred which comes around  36.7 percent.

A total of 1,402 millimeters of rain will occur in average during the monsoon period which takes place from May 21 to October 1. Last year, the monsoon had started on June 12 and came to an end on October 16.

The monsoon had started two days earlier this year.
