10 benches constituted through lottery system at Supreme Court Thursday

KATHMANDU: Hearings in the Supreme Court (SC) have been scheduled through lottery system on Thursday — the second day of lottery system’s implementation, forming a total of 10 benches. A total of 192 cases have been allotted to the 10 benches for hearing.

As many as 10 benches have been formed through lottery system in the absence of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana, who recently contracted COVID-19 and has been hospitalized.

A single bench of Senior Judge Deepak Kumar Karki has been constituted via lotter today.

Similarly, a division bench of Justices Meera Khadka and Nahakul Subedi; a full bench of Justices Hari Krishna Karki, Anil Kumar Sinha and Hari Prasad Phuyal; a joint bench of Justices Tanka Bahadur Moktan and Bishambar Prasad Shrestha has been formed.

Likewise, another full bench of Justices Sushma Lata Mathema, Kumar Regmi and and Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma; a division bench of Justices Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Bam Kumar Shrestha; another division bench of Justices Kumar Chudal and Prakashman Singh Raut has been formed.

In the same manner, two division benches of Justices Sapna Pradhan Malla and Tej Bahadur KC and Justices Tej Bahadur KC and Dr. Kumar Chudal were formed.

Hearings could not be scheduled till noon today and were fixed late as legal practitioners engaged in discussion with SC officials.

The formation of the benches had been affected as CJ Rana, who was admitted to the Armed Police Force Hospital in Balambu Monday afternoon, did not inform the apex court about it.
