RPP Chair Thapa warns of restoring monarchy from the streets

KATHMANDU: Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Kamal Thapa has warned that they would be compelled to restore monarchy from the streets if the government and parties paid no heed to their demands.

The RPP, a pro-monarchy political force, has been demanding the restoration of monarchy and Hindu state through an all-party conference.

Addressing a protest rally in Kathmandu Friday, Thapa said that restoration of Hindu nation and monarchy was no longer the agenda of RPP only.

“The issue of monarchy and Hindu state has been the agenda of other political forces and the Nepali people now,” Thapa said amid applauds.

“Yes, the situation was different a couple of years ago. Now, the time and situation have changed,” he added.

He also demanded revocation of federalism saying that it has become too costly for the country to afford it.

“Now that we have come to the streets with shrouds on our heads for the sake of the country, and to strengthen democracy, nationalism and economic prosperity,” Thapa said further warning that the situation could get out of control if the political parties failed to act responsibly on time.

“I warn you (political parties), it might be too late,” he warned saying that the country has become “guardian-less” in the absence of monarchy.

“Foreign intervention has been on the rise of late due to the irresponsible attitude of the political parties,” he added.
