Monsoon remains active; heavy rain forecast today



KATHMANDU: Monsoon conditions continue to affect Nepal, with the influence of monsoon winds prevailing across the country.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the monsoon trough lies south of its average position in the eastern region and near its average position in the western region.

The Department said the weather is currently generally cloudy nationwide. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is occurring at some places in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at one or two places in the hilly areas of Lumbini Province.

This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy over the country’s hilly and mountainous regions. The Terai areas of Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces are also likely to remain generally cloudy, while the Terai of Koshi, Madhesh and Bagmati provinces will experience partly to generally cloudy conditions.

Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at some places in the hilly and mountainous regions. Similar weather is forecast for parts of the Terai in Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as some areas of the Terai in Koshi and Bagmati provinces and one or two places in Madhesh Province.

The Department has also forecast heavy rainfall at one or two places in the hilly and Terai regions of Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Tonight, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces are expected to remain generally cloudy, while the rest of the country will see partly to generally cloudy skies. Rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning are likely at some places in the Himalayan region.

Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is also expected in parts of the hilly and Terai areas of Sudurpaschim Province, the hilly regions of Koshi and Karnali provinces, and the hilly and Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is also likely in parts of the Terai of Koshi Province and at one or two places in Madhesh Province.

It has urged the public to remain alert, particularly in Sudurpaschim Province, where heavy rainfall is likely at one or two locations in the hilly and Terai regions.
