Swaraswati puja being observed with gusto

KATHMANDU: Saraswati Puja, the worship of goddess of knowledge, is being observed across the country on Thursday.

It falls on Shukla Panchami of the Nepali month Magh, which marks the beginning of spring season. Hence, it is also known as Basanta Panchami.

Students have thronged various Saraswati temples across the country to worship Saraswati goddess for her blessings.

There is a religious belief that if students worship Saraswati goddess, they will get success in their study. Swaraswati is regarded as the goddess of knowledge, music, arts and literature.

The Head of the State goes to Basanta Durbar Square to attend Basanta Shrawan rituals today, according to the tradition.

Today is also considered an auspicious day for teaching alphabets to the beginners.
