Nepali women being trafficked to China, one arrested



KATHMANDU: A police investigation has revealed that women are being trafficked from Nepal for Chinese men.

A man has been arrested after a Nepali woman who had reached China on a visit visa returned to Nepal after she was tortured, according to the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau of Nepal Police.

According to the Bureau, the arrested is Kiran Tamang, 32, of Roshi Rural Municipality-4 in Kavre.

Tamang took a 23-year-old woman to the house of a Chinese man in Shandong Province, China on January 20. The Nepali woman had returned to Nepal on October 28 after the Chinese youth physically abused her.

According to a police official, Tamang speaks Chinese fluently. The Bureau claims that the woman was sent to China for free on the pretext of a job.

Tamang has a good relationship with Chinese men and it has been revealed from the preliminary investigation that he was involved in trafficking Nepali women to China, said an official at the bureau.
