KATHMANDU: Senior economist, Prof. Dr. Bishwambhar Pyakuryal has labeled the ‘downsized’ budget unveiled by the government on Thursday ‘relatively balanced’.
Commenting on the newly introduced budget in the country, Prof Dr. Pyakuryal said that the budget which is downsized by Rs 58 billion than last year is ‘somehow balanced’.
In a time bewitched by the pandemic, the government has introduced the budget as advised by the economists.
“The budget size is somehow as advised by us,” senior economist Dr. Pyakuryal said. “In such a pandemic struck time, it would have been difficult had there been a bigger budget.”
He added that had the budget come in a bigger size, it could have increased inflation.
He hoped that this can now prevent the price hike.
However, he added that the government should be cautious enough to avoid unnecessary expenses and invest in most essential sectors.
