Gauriphanta tense as India-returnees try to break lockdown



DHANGADHI: A tension has run high at Gauriphanta, a checkpoint bordering with India in Kailali district on Tuesday morning.

According to District Police Office, Kailali, the tension flared after the Nepali migrants working in India returned home en masse via the border point after the Nepal government enforced lockdown to combat coronavirus.

A large number of Nepali people tried to enter Nepal via Gauriphanta border point at 7 am today violating the rule of lockdown.

Security personnel stationed on the checkpoint have not allowed them to enter Nepal, which has created tension at the border checkpoint.

Meanwhile, the security personnel have pushed them towards no man’s land in Doke Bazaar of Kanchanpur district.

District Administration Office, Kailali clamped prohibitory order in Kailali district since Monday while the federal government has enforced injunction across the country effective from 6 am today.
