Death toll from landslides in Syangja reaches 10

KATHMANDU: Nine people have died after a landslide buried their house at Waling municipality-14 in Syangja district on early Thursday.

A joint rescue team from Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force supported by locals retrieved nine bodies missing in the landslide.

According to DSP Rajendra Prasad Adhikari, the spokesperson for District Police Office, Syangja, the bodies of 48-year-old Maya Nepali, Sani Nepali, 60, Deepak Nepali, 30, Umakala Nepali, 28, Kuldip Nepali, 21, have been recovered.

Similarly, the bodies retrieved include Binita Nepali, 19, Bikram Nepali, 14, Diwas Nepali, 9, and around seven-month old toddler, informed Adhikari.

They had gone missing in the landslide that struck at 5 am today.

Uma among those deceased is said to be the guest whose address is yet to be established.

Among those landslide victims, 16-year-old Manisha Nepali has been rescued safely and taken to Gandaki Medical College, Pokhara for treatment. Her condition is critical, according to Adhikari.

Similarly, 16-year-old Bishnu Damai of Kaligandaki rural municipality-4, Gautam Danda was buried to death after his house was washed away by a landslide on Thursday morning.
