Dearth of health service, food shortage claim people’s lives in Jajarkot



JAJARKOT: Two pregnant women died in the last week for not getting medical treatment in the district. Similarly, a person died of hunger and another fell from cliff and lost life.

Dalbir Sarki from Sarkitol of Barekot-4 in the district was displaced after his house was buried in landslide occurred on July 9. He later died of food shortage, according to ward secretary Dambar Pun.

Similarly, Man Kumari Pariyar, 21, from Suwakot of Barekot Rural Municipality-7 died after five hours of giving birth to a child. Health Post Chief at Sepukhola, ANM Mira Shahi, informed that Pariyar had normal health during delivery, but she suffered severe ache and high blood pressure resulting to her death.

The newborn has however normal health condition.

Moreover, Singa Puri, 34, from Junichande Rural Municipality-3 died of excessive bleeding immediately after giving birth to a child.

Neighbor Ratna Puri informed that Singa died for not getting essential health service during delivery. There was none at her home to fetch health worker from the remote health post, he added.

Meanwhile, another pregnant woman Parbati Oli, 26, from Nalgadh Municipality-5 has been taken to Surkhet Province Hospital by Nepal Army helicopter as she suffered pain after stumbling at home.

Chief District Officer Janak Raj Panta informed that although she was airlifted for safety, she lost the child in womb.
Another Naine Damai from Kushe Rural Municipality who broke both legs by falling off a cliff was taken to Nepalgunj for treatment. But, another 54-year-old Sarki Damai, 54, fallen together with Naine died in course of treatment.
