Guidelines for Disaster Victim Rescue and Relief endorsed



KATHMANDU: The government has approved Disaster Victim Rescue and Relief Guidelines, 2077 (Seventh Amendment). The Cabinet meeting on July 20 passed the Guidelines amending the Guidelines for Disaster Victim Rescue and Relief, 2064.

According to the Guidelines, a qualified workforce including a minimum of 25 people in each district should be put on standby for search and rescue of those caught in disasters. Likewise, foods and clothing should be stored under the district disaster management committee for emergency use during disasters.

Similarly, Rs 200,000 will be given in relief to a family who has lost its member to a disaster and Rs 100,000 per deceased to the same family. Also, Rs 15,000 will be provided in immediate relief to a family of five members who lost their house, land and crops to disasters, and Rs 20,000 to a family of more than five members.

Likewise, up to Rs 100,000 will be provided to a family whose house is damaged by disasters, for the construction of new house. Relief distributions will prioritize pregnant women, new mothers, children, senior citizens, sick persons and people with disability.
