Protest in KU likely to continue

DHULIKHEL: Padlock slapped by the agitating faction at the Dhulikhel-based Kathmandu University (KU) seems to hit the smooth functioning of the university.

The agitating KU University Teachers Association and Employees’ Association padlocked the dean office, office of examination control, technical training center, administrative building and other major service points in the KU since January 1.

The agitators on January 21 resorted to lock up KU’s main buildings noting that their demands were not been met.

They had agreed to put off their protest programs after the KU administration expressed readiness to involve representatives from associations in the special assembly scheduled for January 27 and address their demands in the assembly.

However, the association said that the padlock would not be lifted. Chairperson of employees association Surendra KC said they would pull out the padlock only after their demands were met through the assembly.
