Two more succumb to COVID-19, Nepal’s death toll reaches 429

KATHMANDU: A total of two more COVID-19 patients, including one in Kathmandu Valley, died in the last 24 hours.

Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population stated that the death toll from the pandemic has reached 429 with the new fatalities as of Tuesday afternoon.

A total of one man and one woman succumbed to the coronavirus, according to the Ministry.

A 50-year-old man in Kathmandu and a 50-year-old woman in Kavrepalanchowk succumbed to the coronavirus.

Earlier on Monday, Nepal had recorded 16 deaths from the pandemic in a record-high fatality registered in a single day.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,356 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the country in the past 24 hours.

The coronavirus tally has reached 66,632 with the fresh cases, Health Ministry’s Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam said on Tuesday afternoon.

He added that the new cases were detected when 11,154 samples were tested in laboratories across the country.

Nepal has carried out 934,977 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests so far.

A total of 18,142 people are currently under isolation. Dr. Gautam stated that a total of 8,939 people are in home isolation and 9,193 in institutional isolation facilities.

Likewise, 7,771 people are in quarantine facilities across the country at present.

According to Dr. Gautam, 823 individuals got discharged from the hospitals in the past 24 hours while the number of people winning the battle against the virus reached 48,061 in the country.

Nepal’s recovery rate stands at 72 percent, he added.
