COVID-19 kills 11,383 globally as 1, 352 die in a single day

KATHMANDU: The death toll from the coronavirus has reached 11,383 after 1,352 people died in a single day as of Friday.

The new infection rate has also increased in an alarming rate. In the last 24 hours, 30, 256 were infected with the novel. With this, the total number of people infected with the novel virus has reached 275, 189.

Italy worst hit by COVID-19

Coronavirus has claimed 627 people in 24 hours in Italy, taking the total death toll to 4, 032. This number is exceeds by 200 than that of Thursday’s. Italy had recorded 427 on Thursday.

The new infection rate from the coronavirus in the country is equally alarming. The new infection rate was 3,500 on average on a daily basis until Wednesday but this number soared to 6,000 on Friday.

The country recorded 5,986 new cases of coronavirus. With this, the total number of infection cases has reached 47,021 as of Friday.

The condition of 2,655 people among those 37, 837 undergoing treatment is critical.

A lockdown imposed on 12 March in Italy has been extended beyond the original 25 March end date.

Despite lockdown and other preventive measures, the death rate from the novel virus has increased in an alarming rate in Italy.

Similarly, 262 people died in the last 24 hours in Spain, taking the total death toll to 1,093 in the country.

A total of people infected with the novel virus has climbed to 25, 110 after 3,433 new cases were reported. Of them, the condition of 939 is critical, according to Spanish officials.

Iran has recorded new 149 deaths on Friday, taking the total death toll to 1,433 while 19, 644 people have been infected so far.

The new virus has claimed 450 in France, 256 in America, 3,255 in China where the COVID-19 first broke out.

Death rate from coronavirus climbs to 4%

The death rate due to coronavirus has also gone up, of late. According the World Health Organization (WHO) the death rate has climbed to 4 percent. Earlier, it was 3 percent.

While there have been reports that the elderly, children and ailing are prone to coronavirus, WHO has warned that the youths are equally susceptible to the novel virus.

WHO has advised the youths to minimize their contact with the elderly and the activities of their movement.

Speaking at a press meet recently, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General, World Health Organization, said the life and death of the youths depend on their own lifestyle and behaviors.

WHO issued such a warning at a time when there has been reports that youths are not much worried about the coronavirus.
